14 April 2025 – …And Relax

We’ve had a
proper day off today. No driving. No sightseeing. No laundry.
Just mainly chilling out in the van.
We’ve had a bit of a reshuffle of our planned schedule for the next few
days given we have the Easter Holidays coming up this week. I had a couple of nights penciled in for Car
Park stays but having spoken to Ana at Sunny Paradise yesterday she has given
us the heads up on a rather more scenic and secure alternative.
We’ve also
shifted our return Le Shuttle ticket forward by a few days from 13th
May to 8th May. We have a few
fairly urgent things to sort out once we get home before our festival season
starts on the late May Bank Holiday and it’s also my Mum’s 97th
birthday on the 9th so we are looking to get home by then without
carving too many of our proposed stops out of the schedule.
We did take ourselves out for a bit of a leg stretch this afternoon. One of the site dogs obviously didn’t trust our ability to find our way back again under our own steam and so came along with us to mke sure we didn’t wander too far astray.
The cloud cover materialised as forecast and we’ve had a few light showers today but we managed to stay dry for the majority of our walk.
Our path was blocked by these guys and we didn’t much like the look of those horns so even with our canine protector we decided that discretion was the better part of valour and changed course.
Instead we walked back down towards the village and had a look around there. Everybody here seems to have a smallholding and a number of the predominantly elderly population were out maintaining their patches. We also heard our first cuckoo of the year.
The village square basically consists of a drinking fountain and this rather obscure florally adorned monument.
We continued up the hill on the other side of the village to the point where we could see down into the next valley.
And then turned around and made our way back. The Eco Village is towards the top of the hill slightly to the left of centre.
We had dinner in the restaurant tonight and as you can see we beat the rush. There are some interesting painted animal skulls as well as other quirky items on display, along with plenty of board games for wet weather days. There are some other guests staying in the lodges. Mainly a Dutch family group who have actually been using the swimming pool despite the fact it clearly hasn’t been cleaned or maintained in any way since last Summer.
The food is fairly basic but really tasty. I had a stew of beef from the animal’s head while Lisa had a pork schnitzel. We settled up our bill before we came back to the van. 2 nights’ stay, dinner for 2 and 5 rounds of drinks came to 118 lev = about £52. Can’t say fairer than that.
One slight
downer. The owner kindly turned on the
supply to the tap next to the van so I could fill our water tank this evening, but the nozzle
on my hosepipe came adrift and lodged itself halfway down the filler tube. Sorting it out is going to involve taking
apart the casing around the water tank so it’s going to have to wait until I
have a bit of daylight to work with in the morning. But we will get it sorted before we slalom our way back down the mountain.
