The tumble dryer here at the campsite is broken so we rigged up a line and let the wind and sun go to work while we took a wander round the resort this morning. As I mentioned yesterday the place has a serious tumbleweed feel to it this far out of season. I thought we were still on the Costa Del Sol but this part of the World is actually the Costa de Granada or, slightly more romantically, the "Costa Tropical". I don't think it's really on the radar for most Brits and Motril doesn't even get a mention in the Rough Guide even though it has one of the oldest ports in the country. A lot of the apartments are very blocky in their design so I'm assuming that this place is primarily a destination for Spaniards seeking a cheap week or two on the coast than overseas visitors. We walked along the front and then on to the port. As well as a fairly large industrial area there are lots of leisure craft stacked up for the winter months. We also spotted 2 Australian trimarans, as well as one from New Zealand, all of which were hauled out of the water and undergoing repairs so we weren't sure whether they might possibly be competing in some sort of round the World event. We didn't make it as far as the fishing harbour but we did get to the ferry port. Last chance to get a boat to Tangier. I wish! Although we didn't make it into the main inland town of Motril I would have to say that the Port Authority building was probably the most impressive piece of architecture we did manage to see. After lunch and a siesta at the van we went for one last wander down the beach and popped into a bar to admire the kite surfers getting some serious air. I won't feel that we are genuinely on our way home until we leave Granada at the end of the week but nevertheles the fact that we will be heading north and away from the coast tomorrow does feel like a bit of a departure. One that I'm not sure I'm really quite ready for just yet.
