The site at Tulln was packed to the rafters by last night and there was very little space around the van to sit in the sunshine this morning until the sun swung around a little way so we had bit of a lie in, showered and then busied ourselves with a few chores.

As lunchtime approached we strolled up to the Station and caught the train into Central Vienna and from there the U-bahn under the river to Floridsdorf where we met Michael and he drove us the rest of the way to his and Andrea’s home in Gerasdorf.  Andrea’s incredibly spritely Mum Elizabeth was there when we arrived and shortly after Michael’s daughter Johanna turned up with her partner Andy and their 9 months old son Waldo. Who is an absolute delight.

Elizabeth had done all of the cooking and served up a traditional Viennese Rindsrouladen.  Beef slices rolled around vegetables and a spicy sausage and served in the most delicious gravy, together with pasta and salad.

Then there was the choice of two different cakes for dessert.  Or maybe just a slice of both for those of us who couldn’t make our minds up.

We sat in the garden and were entertained by Waldo and the local hedgehog community paid us a visit before Lisa, Michael Johanna and I took Waldo for a stroll in order to encourage him to go off to sleep and for us to walk off some of the lunchtime calories.

By the time we had got back, Andrea’s daughter Elena and her partner, another Michael, had arrived and we continued chatting around the table and demolishing Michael’s wine and Pilsner stock until we finally got around to ordering an Uber to take us back to Tulln a little before 11.
