26 February 2025 – Shorts Weather

Miles driven today = 0

Total Miles to date = 1,354

The temperature wasn’t forecast to drop below 10 degrees last night, so for the first time on this trip we didn’t bother with the thermal screen covers.  We still had the heating on for a while last night and again when we got up but when we opened the blinds this morning there wasn’t a single smudge of condensation and this was the view that greeted us.

We’ve decided to stay here at the Bouka Taverna for another night and we’ve been on the road for exactly a fortnight now, so after a well deserved lie in we busied ourselves with changing the towels and bedding.  We had also heard back from those very nice people at Motorhome WiFi with a solution to our problem with connecting our MiFi to the internet.  I struggled initially with translating Greek websites until Lisa spotted a dropdown box with an option to convert to English.  Once we had found that, the process was relatively straightforward and we now have unlimited data for the next month.  Whether it will be strong enough for me to stream the Tractor Boys’ visit to Old Trafford this evening remains to be seen.

It was all lovely and quiet for a while until this guy decided to get busy with his mini chainsaw, pruning all the trees around the van.  Note the total lack of safety gear.  No gloves, no hard hat, no goggles, no harness.  A veritable health and safety nightmare.

So we left him to it while we went for a long walk down the beach.

And what a fabulous stretch of sand it is too, running unbroken for a distance of nearly 10 miles.

We seemed to have it all to ourselves with the exception of a solitary fisherman and another couple of van folk from the taverna.  My pasty legs got their first exposure of the year to the Sun’s warming rays.  I checked last year’s Italy blog and this didn’t happen until the 1st of March so I’m a few days ahead of the game.

This afternoon’s forecast showers never materialised, although it did cloud over and cool down a little after 3pm so we hung out at the van until tea time.  I get the impression that some of the people who stay here spend little or nothing in the taverna, which isn’t really playing the game to my way of thinking.  We went back in again for our meal this evening.  This is what you get if you order a pork chop round here and it only cost €8,50!  I’d already ploughed through half a Greek Salad, a large plate of fried aubergine, bread and some of Lisa’s squid by the time this turned up.  Just as well I’m getting my 10k steps in most days at the moment.
