3 November 2022 - Out to lunch

Miles driven today = 0

Total Miles to date = 2,908

A lot of our neighbours here at La Rosaleda are definitely here for the long term.  When I went down to reception this morning to pay for a second night the guy in front of me was extending his stay for a whole month.  And the Finnish couple next door have been here for a few days but were still banging in awning pegs this evening so they aren't going anywhere in a hurry either.

We had a quietly industrious morning.  Lisa gave the inside of the van a good clean while I cleared out the garage, reorganised some of the storage and got rid of the accumulated pine needles and other detritus.

As lunchtime approached we cycled into Conil.  One particular restaurant caught our eye yesterday but for some inexplicable reason they were shut today.  But 2 doors down El Pasaje looked popular so we parked the bikes and bagged ourselves a freshly vacated table front of house.  They served up the local tuna in a variety of different ways so I plumped for the grilled version while Lisa went for grilled shark.  Both dishes were cooked to perfection and once again we left completely stuffed.

There was nothing particular on the agenda for this afternoon so we thought we would just take the bikes out for a bit of exploration along the coast.

Although the old town of Conil is very compact the attendant hotels and appartment developments sprawl intermittently along the cliffs and beaches to the north for several kilometres.

There are some great little beaches which seem to be pretty much abandoned outside of the main tourist season.

A number of the properties do seem to be very close to the edge of the sandstone cliffs and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they weren't there if we were to return in a few years' time.

We freewheeled down into the fishing port, which is located about 5 miles up the coast from the town.

There was nothing particularly remarkable about it other than a long string of old anchors lining the quayside.

Tonight's sunset was definitely of the Shepherds' delight variety and had us wishing we were on the beach rather than a little way inland with trees obscuring our view.  We are really slowing down the pace now so we will go in hunt of somewhere a little further down the coast towards Tarifa where we can see it sink into the horizon tomorrow.
