Greece Summary
So, in line with our previous European excursions, here’s a little summary of
how the numbers lined up for our Greek adventure:-
We spent a
total of 85 nights away, which is exactly the same number as for our Italian
trip last year. These can be broken down
as follows:-

Cost
Trying to
show our total expenditure on a like for like basis with our previous trips, I
have included the cost of our return Eurotunnel fare, even though that was
actually paid for in advance on this occasion.
With that added in our total expenditure whilst on the trip was £7,400,
i.e. £1,200 more than the £6,200 we spent in Italy last year.
Thankfully
we managed to avoid any repair costs this time around but supermarket bills,
eating out and campsites, when we used them, all seemed to be a fair bit more
expensive than they were in Italy, although we did have more nights wild
camping so that should have balanced out our accommodation costs to a certain
extent.
We also drove
for an additional 700 miles on this trip so our diesel costs would have increased
accordingly. Toll expenditure for
motorways through France and around Greece and also for the tunnel through the Alps
and the bridge entering the Peloponnese, were also significantly higher than we
have forked out on previous trips.
The one big additional cost was of course the ferry from Ancona to Igoumenitsa, which added €700 (£585), so taking that out of the equation to make it a bit more like for like gives us a net increase of 11% over our Italian costings, which feels to be pretty much what I expected the comparison to show.
