Cost
We don't keep an itemised costing but we are able to work out fairly accurately how much we spent in total, which came in at approximately £6,200. This is fairly comparable with the £6,000 we spent on our previous trip, which surprised me somewhat as everything felt a fair bit more expensive. Food in Italy certainly isn't as cheap as I imagined it would be and some of the meals we had out cost a lot more than they did in Spain and Portugal too.
Diesel is quite expensive and our other major outlay of camping costs felt as though it had gone up significantly too with a lot more time spent on sites charging somewhere around the €25 a night bracket than we have used previously.
Repair costs for the puncture and the broken wing mirror were roughly similar to the gas leak we had in 2022 and the return Chunnel ticket was also in the same ballpark.
We did use a lot more in the way of toll roads this time, having avoided them almost entirely on our last trip. But in total I very much doubt they came to €100. There was also the return Ferry crossing to Sicily at €80.
If we were to pro-rate our expenditure for this 86 day trip over the 92 days we took last time it increases to £6,600, so a 10% increase in like for like terms which is probably the best scenario I could have hoped for. It was worth every penny though!
