South East England, Spring 2023
The van has been in mothballs and has barely spun a wheel since we returned from our Iberian adventures in early December. Having spent my full 90 days allowance in the Schengen area on that trip I've been grounded from leaving again for the equivalent period, but that sentence is now spent and I am free to explore continental Europe once more. However we have tickets for a couple of festivals in May and Lisa has family to visit in Canada while I make my annual pilgrimage to Glastonbury in June. We also have building work imminently starting on Lisa's house in Yorkshire so we have decided to stay closer to home for now with a view to embarking on another lengthy European tour later in the year.
So, with the weather generally feeling a bit more Spring-like and with persistent late winter colds now largely behind us we've decided to re-stock the van and get ourselves back on the road. It'll probably only be for a couple of weeks at most but it will break the cabin fever and sooth the itchy feet we have both been feeling for a while now. When we have gone away for short breaks in the past we have generally headed deeper into East Anglia and we know the Suffolk and Norfolk coastlines very well indeed. So we have decided to break from tradition and head South instead. Lisa has never explored the Kent Coast before and, despite my Grandparents having lived in Sevenoaks, my only vague memories of the area are from a family holiday when I was probably still at primary school, so 50+ years ago now.
So that's where we are heading. Into the garden of England to see what delights we can stumble across on our way.
